Juicy

17 March 2013

When we are working we have very little time for much else, which makes it difficult for us to make time or have the energy to eat right most of the time.  We still do a good job of avoiding the bad stuff, but it's getting enough of the good stuff that we slack on.  The best way that I have found to cram all of the necessary healthy goodies into a short period of time is juicing.  We have a Jack LeLanne juicer which was one of the more expensive options, but it was worth it.  It has taken a lot of use and abuse over a good bit of time and still works like it did the first day.

So what good is juicing?  It allows you to get tons of antioxidants, nutrients, and vitamins that are awesome for immune boosting, cancer fighting, high energy, detoxing, and great skin- all in a glass of juice a day.  The amount of goodies your body gets from RAW food is a lot higher than from cooked food, and therefore drinking this fresh juice bombards your body's systems with tons of nutrients.

These are some of my favorite fruits and veggies to toss in the juicer, and here's why . . .

*Green Apples*
Apples in your diet on a regular basis can help avoid Alzheimer's Disease, curb all types of cancers, lower risk of Diabetes, keep your heart healthy, control your weight, detox your liver, boost immunity, and prevent cataracts.

*Carrots*
Carrots in your diet on a regular basis can protect and improve vision, prevent cancer, slow the aging of your skin, protect and improve the condition and appearance of your skin, prevent heart disease, prevent stroke, and cleanse the entire body.

*Cucumber*
Cucumbers in your diet on a regular basis can help the body stay hydrated, improve condition of nails and skin, fight cancer, control blood pressure, aid in digestion, promote joint health, reduce cholesterol, stimulate hair growth, and aids in weight loss.

*Celery*
Celery in your diet on a regular basis can help fight cancer, boost energy, boost immunity, lower cholesterol, aid in digestion, lower blood pressure, increase sexuality, reduce inflammation, and fight insomnia.

*Ginger*
Ginger in your diet on a regular basis can help aid in digestion, maintain normal blood circulation, allow the body to absorb nutrients more easily, prevent cold and flu, reduce pain and inflammation, strengthen immunity, fight certain cancers, and fight respiratory problems.

These are only my favorite 5 to use on a regular basis, but of course there are lots more great-for-you fruits and veggies that you can toss in the juicer for a boost of nutrition.

  1. Sounds pretty good.

If I had a juicer, I would probably use a lot of mango and papaya. Looked at the machine. It looks like a pretty nice setup.

    1. I love our juicer, I feel like it's been a life saver during times of too many fast meals. Mangoes are awesome in the juicer- although VERY messy and hard to clean up after- so I usually juice a bunch of them all at once, and freeze what I don't use. I got this tip from my sister- to thaw it back out simply put the bag/bottle of juice in warm water and let it melt. One of our favorites is fresh juiced mangoes mixed with coconut water, which is REALLY good with Sailor Jerry Rum!!

  4. I do all of those, too with the exception of celery. Blech. Instead I add spinach, mint, parsley and lime. De-Licious!
