Duck Hunt

26 July 2012

Johnny chilln' with Spudz Mckenzie, Alex from Stroh's and Gidget the Taco Bell Dog

We have made our way up to Charleston, SC.  C's family lives here and it's a great midway point to stop and relax from looking at boats.  So far we have looked at boats in Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina.  To be honest most of them have started looking the same.  A few cookie cutter boats without any personality have been scratched off of the list.  So far we have narrowed the list down to:

  (DRUM ROLL PLEASE)

Morgan O/I
Westsail 32
Irwin
Endeavour 37
Gemini 105

The last one was totally different we know, but was added just for spice and good measure.  Opinions are being solicited at this point.  Over the next couple of days we will be visiting with family, helping out with yard work, installing a ceiling fan, visiting some brothers, and living the dream!

    1. We sold her MUCH faster than we had anticipated actually. All for the best though- we are really looking forward to finding our "Dream Boat" to go cruising with and not having to spend ten hours a day working!! We will definitely keep updates on our new boat search going over the next few weeks :)

      Thanks!

  3. I don't know what you budget is or where you are trying to sail, but we love Westies..They are made for the open ocean though and definitely don't have an "open floor" plan. Keep in mind we bought our boat for $30k, but will probably have ended up putting another $60k in her when she is done, for a total of $90k ready to go around the world.

Looking back I think you certainly get more for your money if you spend more upfront, but you lose customization. Just depends what you are looking for.

Well I just saw this boat for sale on ZTC, it's a morgan O/I 41 $76,000

Also Windtraveler is selling their Hallberg Rassy 35' for $75k

Both boats look ready to go and in good shape.

    Goodluck!

    1. The Westsail design is one I really like. It seems like it has an awesome reputation for blue water sailing, and I like the good use of space below decks. The factory finished Westsails are what we have mostly checked out, but even some of the kit boats look pretty good. I'm not into us getting a boat that would be another huge project, that's for sure. Thanks for the links, we will take a look!

  4. I love the roominess of the Endeavour but have been informed they're a bit hard to maneuver (but those people could b wrong)
